The Story behind Zusie It is basically based on the Z1 which is a relay computer or the first binary mechanical computer. Quote: 8-bit data bus and 16-bit address bus 3 x 8-bit accumulator registers, 2 x 12-bit registers (for index, addresses and jumps) 64k solid state memory, holding heap, stack and program 12-bit program counter and 12-bit stack pointer ALU capable of not, and, or, xor, add, increment, decrement, shift, and indirectly, subtraction Writable microprogram stored in solid-state device for sequencing Assembler and Microassembler running in DOS and communicating with Zusie over parallel port. http://www.nablaman.com/relay/ http://www.nablaman.com/relay/story.php |

The visual part reminds me of the Whopper from the MGM film or IMSAI 8080 Microcomputer System which was a vanity computer but I do think the Zusie has some real CPU power. http://www.imsai.net/ |

I have enjoyed this thread very much. I have been aware of the Zuse computer, but the story of Zusie is terrific. I do, however, have to rate Chuck's whopper as the best comment. I have been a long time fan of the "War Games" movie, and always liked the scenes with the moving lights across the WOPR. |
