Can anyone recommend a newsgroup access app for comp.arch? I was using Google groups but the access through Google groups has been made read-only due to spam.

If you are an Emacs user, there is (of course) a package for that, called "gnus".

Thunderbird also still supports newsgroups.

I use 'trn' from the command-line. A bit old fashioned but still works..

So, sort of a followup to my recommendation for Emacs/gnus...

In the last week or so, some of the newsgroups I follow have been absolutely swamped with spam. Previously, I have used kill-files with gnus, but the current flood of crap, using multiple throw-away accounts and injected via google groups, causes way too much effort to handle with kill-files.

Luckily, gnus has an alternative mechanism ("scoring"). My current setup simply lowers the score of anything posted through google groups. There are some people who post interesting and relevant articles through google groups, but it is less work to add individual rules for those than it is to mark spammers individually.

A sad state of affairs.
