In 1980 Ron Cain published an article in Doctor Dobb's Journal #45 (July 1980) describing his development of Small-C. His approach was to bootstrap the C language onto his machine by writing the Small-C compiler in Small-C. One of the tools that Ron used to create the first version of his compiler was an interpretive version of C he had already purchased for his computer called "Tiny-C" from Tiny-C Associates. (The book "Dr. Dobb's Toolbook of C" from 1986 has much more information about Small-C.) Surprising to me, is that I did a search today and found a website that has quite a bit of historical information about the original Tiny-C. Interesting!
