Dieter let me know of this one: a Johnny Lovqvist has been building, and seems to have succeeded in building, a TTL-based 8080 CPU. (He'd previously spent 2 years on a DTL version, which kind of worked but has some unreliability problem.)

It's something to see:

Details are quite sparse, although hopefully the website will fill out in due course. The machine runs at 2MHz.

But, interestingly, a Marty on the vcfed forums seems to be in touch privately and is closely following with his own build, so that's something to watch too:
Quote:
...it so far is built on two Wire-wrap Boards of about 8.50 X 17 Inches..

The main Board has about 134 IC's, plus 6 R-packs, plus 6, 10 display Led's, which for the most part only use 8 of them, but a few use all 10..
And 16, 7 Segment Displays and 10, 16 pin Sockets for cables to carry signals between the two boards..

The second Board which is the same size has 57 Ic's and Sockets for 8 SRAMS (which are wired in, but not populated, in addition to the 57 Ic's)..

It has 13, 10 segment Led's, 6 plain Led's, 10, 8 position Switches, 20 R-packs
